Where is the Brite Tank in the Beer Production Process?

In the beer production process, the brite tank is typically located after filtration and before packaging. After stabilization in the brite tank, the beer is transferred to the keg system, bottling, or canning line. In this process, the brite tank ensures the beer maintains a consistent taste and clear appearance before shipment.

Main Functions of the Brite Tank

1. Clarifying Beer

The brite tank's primary function is to ensure beer clarity. Through gravity settling and cooling, residual yeast, protein particles, and suspended solids gradually settle, resulting in a clearer beer. This step is a crucial transition from green beer to finished beer.

2. Carbonation Control

The filtration process will cause the beer to lose some pressure. To ensure the flavor of the finished beer, brewers will fill the brite tank with carbon dioxide before filling. Usually, the brite tank is equipped with titanium rods to help the carbon dioxide better blend with the beer. Sufficient pressure can also help complete the beer filling. This is why bright beer tanks have a greater pressure resistance than fermentation tanks.
